GARMENT WORKER

The garment industry is the main employment sector for women after agriculture in Cambodia. Nearly 20% of Cambodian women between the ages of 18 - 25 work or have worked in this industry.

The whole sector, linked to international fluctuations in textiles trade and marketing is very volatile, and business can be easily moved out and established elsewhere. Cambodia enjoys a trade agreement with the US and has been granted a Most Favoured Nation (MFN) and Generalised System of Preference (GSP). THE MESSENGER BAND

Initiated by the Womyn's Agenda for Change (WAC), a band comprised of members who were selected from the women garment factory workers was formed. This band advocates in various campaign through songs. Generally, people like to listen to songs and this is the safer way to conduct advocacy.
